The Good Man Jesus And The Scoundrel Christ

By Philip Pullman

I read this on the 12th of December, 2023, starting on the bus to work and finishing during work lol.

A really good book. Echoes of UNSONG’s we enslave our children’s children who make compromise with sin, with Pullman’s panpsychism evident as well. A really good read which I thought treated the subject matter with due consideration and compassion, while also clearly and unsubtly making the author’s position (which I happen to agree with) obvious.

The bits about the Church altering Jesus’s story but being necessary for him to be remembered at all were particularly wrenching. I know some friends would have Thoughts about this, but I don’t understand their positions well enough to tell whether they would praise it or call it limited.
