I saw this at the independent cinema on the 24th of May 2024. I liked it! The overall arc of Tashi (Zendaya) finally getting to see a good tennis match, the friendship and bitterness between the two guys, and some of the shots were very pretty. The direction and editing could have been a lot better, a lot could have been cut, the random slo-mos and the music weren’t great, and the back and forth to the past was a bit confusing at times, but the actors really pulled it off, they did a fantastic job.
It was an odd sports movie, it didn’t make me want to immediately take up the sport afterwards. Still, funny and bitter and a really nice framing of the unravelling of the ties between the three over the course of the match, so we understand all the glances.
