Love Lies Bleeding

I watched this in the Phoenix Picturehouse 3rd of May, 2024, with some friends.

It divided opinion, to say the least.

I quite liked it! Not a masterpiece, but I liked the way the violence was done, the cinematography, the colour schemes, the tastelessness of the sex, and the performances of the actors - Kristen Stewart in particular (although she always plays herself) is a master of the subtle look and twitch and she did it flawlessly.

It was alternately intentionally and unintentionally funny, alongside genuine thrills and dread, like when her dad (compellingly nasty) is looking for her in the dead husband-in-law’s house.

Two friends did not like it and found it pointless, another liked it, and to a fourth it was almost unbearably funny. I did quite like the way the whole theatre laughed at times, it really gave everything a community feel.

Also dear god, the muscles, have mercy.
