The Edge

I watched this on the 22nd of August in India. It’s decent! A survival film about a billionaire, a photographer, and his assistant, being stranded in Alaska and having to make their way back to the lodge, while being stalked by a brown bear

Classic old thriller, with the dialogue and themes - the bits where the photographer was telling the billionaire about being rich were a bit dated but still relevant, but the billionaire’s character was very finely made - Anthony Hopkins played the introverted, knowledge sponge part very well.

I liked the subplot about his wife and the photographer, it added tension and interest, although it was a little contrived.

The bear itself was a standout - they used a trained bear who’s also been in lots of other films, and apparently he was so docile and friendly on set that the director was worried that the film wouldn’t be scary at all!

Not something I’d pick by myself but I’m glad I watched it.

I did identify a lot with the main guy, the billionaire, who has all this trivia about surviving in the wild (like using a needle as a compass) and who tries it out only to find that a lot of it is useless in a real scenario. For example, he did the watch trick to find south, but it misleads them!
