The Greatest Hits

I watched this on the 27th and 28th of April, 2024. It’s about a woman whose boyfriend dies in a car accident. For the next two years, any time she hears a song which she heard for the first time with him, she’s pulled back in time to that moment. She meets a new guy in her grief support group, but when the problem keeps happening, she decides to go back in time to the moment when she met her first boyfriend and makes it so they never got together, losing both of them in the process.

The conceit that music makes her travel back in time is something I really liked, especially since I experience it so vividly as well. It takes her out of key moments in her present, preventing her from moving on or enjoying her life. The main romance is also saccharine in the best way. A properly good comfort movie.

Of course, it sometimes lacks nuance and depth, and the ending clashes with the metaphor a little, and takes it too literally, but still - the colours and performances are great.
