The Deepest Rift is a hopepunk sci-fi story about a team of experimental linguists on a newly discovered planet, who are trying to prove that a native species is sentient and possesses the skill of language.
It ends ambiguously, but the four main characters are wonderfully fleshed out (reminiscent of Chambers’ Wayfarers), and the worldbuilding is spectacular and thought-provoking.
