The Metropolitan Man is a rational! version of the Superman story, with Lex Luthor as the protagonist. Some brilliant concepts and explorations of the Superman mythos reframed in a scientific setting.
The ending is a bit sad, and I felt a bit let down, but the exploration of the impact of such a powerful entity on human society and the potential dangers were very well explored. It was also oddly emotional, particularly the parts about Superman sensing so much suffering (graphic depictions), and him being presented as an unalloyed moral figure in an ambiguous world.
